Kauffman Stadium goes high tech
While the stadium talk in Major League Baseball has mostly involved the new Nationals Park and the last season of Yankee Stadium, Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City has debuted a mammoth video screen at the park along with a left-field wall comprised of light emitting diodes (LED's). The new scoreboard is billed as the largest in the U.S., rating slightly bigger than that at the football stadium at the University of Texas. The scoreboard will be run by a team of 17 people during games. A recent article in the Kansas City Star documents the challenges that the Royals face this year considering that their stadium will be a construction site for most of the season. They will at least have a gleaming video board that maintains the crown-shape of their legendary scoreboard.
