Artificial turf taking over

I have noticed a remarkable move towards artificial turf in college football. While the new FieldTurf and similar surfaces are much more pleasant to look at, I still enjoy seeing a nice grass field. A quick rundown of the teams with artificial surfaces on their football fields:

ACC: 2 of 10 (BC, Wake Forest)
Big East: 5 of 8 (Cincinnati, Louisville, Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia)
Big 10: 6 of 11 (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Wisconsin)
Big 12: 7 of 12 (Missouri, Kansas, Kansas St., Nebraska, Baylor, Oklahoma St, Texas Tech)
Conference USA: 7 of 12 (Marshall, Southern Miss, UTEP, Rice, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa)
MAC: 11 of 13 (Akron, Buffalo, Kent St., Miami, Ohio, Ball St., Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Western Michigan) [all but Bowling Green & Temple]
Mountain West: 6 of 9 (Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV, Utah, Wyoming)
Pac 10: 5 of 10 (California, Oregon, Oregon St., Washington, Washington St.)
SEC: 1 of 12 (Mississippi)
Sun Belt: 6 of 8 (Florida International, Arkansas St., Louisiana Monroe, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Troy)
WAC: 6 of 9 (Boise St., Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, Utah St.)
Independents: 2 of 3 (Army, Navy {didn't include Western Ky, a transitional member of Div. I-A, which has artificial turf)

Total: 64 of 119 schools have artificial turf.

More thoughts to come.
